Police probe Carlisle city centre burglary

Police are investigating a burglary at a business in Carlisle city centre.

Thieves stole property including cash, an iPad and a till from Quarter Lounge in Treasury Court.

They broke in overnight on Sunday into Monday before making off with the property.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “Officers are appealing for information about the burglary. Anybody who knows anything is urged to come forward.

“Police have visited nearby businesses to offer reassurance and security advice.

“Officers are also reissuing a warning to owners and staff at bistros and small bars in the city centre to be vigilant following a number of burglaries in recent weeks.

“Before this latest burglary, three city centre cafes  had been targeted in overnight break-ins and had cash stolen.

“Police are reminding business bosses and staff to make sure all windows and doors are secure before leaving and security measures such as CCTV, alarms and locks are working.

“Till draws should also be emptied and left open as a deterrent to opportunist thieves.”

Anyone with information about the Quarter Lounge burglary should contact PC 2435 Wendy Fothergill, referencing incident 41 of October 1, on 101.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
