Local housebuilder Russell Armer Homes has received a coveted award from Kendal Civic Society for the company’s positive contribution to the town’s characterful built environment with its recent conversion of an old nurses’ home on Brigsteer Road. The award was presented at an informal ceremony on Tuesday 30 October at St Thomas’s Church.

Each year, Kendal Civic Society recognises exceptional buildings that contribute to the attractiveness of the townscape by showcasing high standards of design and construction. This year, Russell Armer’s Tenterfield development received a ‘Highly Commended’ certificate for its beautifully designed conversion of a period building, that sits comfortably alongside a small and sympathetic development of new build properties.

Tenterfield comprises just eighteen homes – including two affordable homes – with a traditional aspect on a mature landscaped setting in a leafy Kendal Conservation Area. It’s a fine example of the sensitive transformation of a dilapidated brownfield site into a well-planned collection of houses and apartments with additional high-quality new builds that offer residents contemporary, energy-efficient living spaces.

Russell Armer Homes Architect, Richard Wood: “We couldn’t be happier with the positive reception that Tenterfield has had, especially from the local community. This award means more than most as it’s been made on behalf of a society that cares deeply not only about preserving Kendal’s history but is also committed to promoting new buildings that capture the character of the town.

“We’re particularly proud of the effort that’s gone into creating an attractive development that preserves the original building’s charm, while providing characterful contemporary accommodation. From being a neglected and dilapidated plot, Tenterfield now makes the most of this beautiful setting and is providing comfortable homes for a new generation of residents.”

Tenterfield has also recently notched up a prestigious win in the United Kingdom Property Awards 2018-2019, the official presentation of which was held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London on the 26th October 2018. The highest scoring five-star winners from each category of these will be automatically put forward for re-judging against the five-star winners in other regions of the world – Asia Pacific, Americas, Europe, Africa and Arabia.
