Dodd & Co, Chartered Accountants & Business Advisers, have made a Christmas charitable donation for many years now in lieu of sending corporate Christmas cards, and this year the total raised for the Cumberland Infirmary Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) was a fantastic £1,500.

Towards the end of the year, all of Team Doddies are asked to put forward their suggested charities that they would like to support. This year, the chosen charity was the SCBU, which cares for babies born early, babies with breathing difficulties or feeding problems and babies with infections or abnormalities, with fantastic, experienced staff ready to do whatever needs to be done and fully explain what is happening to the parents and families involved.

Hannah Scott, of Dodd & Co Carlisle tax department, put forward the suggestion for this year’s Christmas charity, having experienced first-hand the fantastic help of the SCBU staff after the early arrival of her baby girl, Niamh in October 2018. Hannah presented the donation to Claire Moore, Chief Matron in child health and safeguarding, and Janice Clark who was there to care for baby Niamh when she arrived six weeks early, at the Cumberland Infirmary. The unit received a grand total of £1,500 which they plan to put towards some more much needed equipment.

Dodd & Co organised a range of activities to raise money for their chosen charity including; a ‘Festive Breakfast’, a ‘Doddie’ Christmas bake-off competition, festive ‘Santa Sandwiches’ and even hiring out some empty car parking spaces at the Penrith office.

Alison Johnston, Partner at Dodd & Co, said: “We’re so proud of the amount raised this year, and put together with the contribution from partners in lieu of our Christmas cards; we are delighted to be making a difference again in 2019. It is lovely to see where the money will be spent within the department, and that it is going to a charity with such meaning to many of our staff, clients and the community as a whole.”
