Carlisle Crown Court

TWO men involved in a Kendal incident during which a police car was struck by another vehicle will be sentenced later this month.

Billy John Carl Johnson, 27, and 26-year-old Stephen Ayrey had previously denied charges of possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply.

But today (FRI), when Johnson and Ayrey appeared at Carlisle Crown Court over a video link from custody, they changed their pleas to guilty.

In addition, Johnson admitted driving a Renault Scenic dangerously at Gillinggate in Kendal.

These offences were committed on Friday, 7th December, when the Renault is said to have been in collision with a police car and two parked vehicles in the Kirkland area at around 11-45am.

Judge James Adkin adjourned the case. Johnson, of Reginald Street, and Ayrey, of The Gardens, both Eccles, Manchester, will be sentenced next Friday, and in the meantime were remanded in custody.

Speaking after the December 7 incident, Detective Sergeant Andrew Lamb said: “Cumbria Constabulary takes all drugs crime seriously.

“To tackle drugs offences we need the help of the public and any information, no matter how minor it might seem, could help.

“Please contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
