A SPECIAL memorial service is being held at Distington Hall Crematorium this month to mark Mother’s Day.

The event, on Friday, March 29, will include music, readings and poetry, and guests are invited to bring a photo of their mother for inclusion in a display. There will also be the opportunity to sign a memorial book.

The Mother’s Day event follows the success of a Christmas memorial service, hosted at the crematorium, with further events planned for Father’s Day in June, and Baby Loss Awareness Week in October.

Carla Christian, the event’s organiser, said: “The Christmas event was incredibly popular and the feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive, so we’re delighted to be extending our series of special events this year to mark Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Baby Loss Awareness Week.

“For those who have lost their mother, Mother’s Day can be a difficult and emotional time. But we know this event will be an uplifting and positive gathering for people to come together and remember their much-loved mums.”

The event begins at 6pm. Entry is free and there is no need to book a place.
