More than £2,700 was raised for local good causes by generous guests at Allerdale Borough Council’s Civic Dinner on Friday 1 March 2019.

Over 150 people joined the Mayor of Allerdale, John Crouch, at the event which this year was held at the Greenhill Hotel near Wigton. Cllr Crouch a local Wigton councillor.

The money raised will go towards three local organisations: Amy’s Care, COSC and the Sid8 Foundation.

As Cllr Crouch is a keen chef and local food advocate, there was a cooking theme to the evening. Guests were treated to a cookery demonstration using local produce from Keswick-based chef Peter Sidwell. And the local-theme continued in the meal with beef supplied by Allerdale-based suppliers DA Harrison and Richard Miller with cheese from Thornby Moor Dairy.

Guests were also able to bid on auction prizes provided by a number of local organisations and businesses including Sealy UK, Wigton-based Innovia, Thomas Armstrong, Workington Town RLFC, Workington Reds, and Derwent Pencils.

The event was sponsored by the Workington-based TSP Engineering Ltd, the leisure services provider GLL, and the Allerdale Investment Partnership. Event media was provided by Cockermouth-based Fluid Productions.

Mayor of Allerdale, John Crouch, said: “I’d like to thank everyone for coming along to this year’s Civic Dinner and helping raise so much money for these very worthy causes. I’d also like to thank the guest of honour, Peter Sidwell, all the local companies and organisations that provided prizes, as well as everyone including the Greenhill Hotel who helped organise it. The past year has been a real honour, and it was great to be able to celebrate all the great things about Allerdale, especially the local food producers.”
