Mobile Mini and Hospice at Home team members with Mobile Mini Cumbria Branch Manager Sharon Gullen

A North Cumbrian storage container firm surprised a local hospice with a generous donation earlier this year.

Staff at the Carlisle branch of Mobile Mini, a leading hirer of secure site accommodation and storage containers, donated £350 to Hospice at Home, which provides palliative and end-of-life care for people in the Carlisle and North Lakeland region.

Both the firm and the hospice’s headquarters are based on the Barras Lane Industrial Estate, in
Dalston, and after winning a monthly sales challenge, the staff at Mobile Mini decided that instead of enjoying a night out, they would donate the £350 prize money to the neighbouring hospice.

Branch manager Sharon Gullen said: “When we decided to donate our prize money, we were keen that it should go to a hospice, so we decided that as they are on our doorstop – literally – we should show some support.

“We are all aware that any of us could need their services, either for ourselves or our families, and we also had a staff member at the time who told us about all the support the hospice had given his mother, making it the obvious choice.”

Staff at the hospice, which relies on charitable donations for 80% of its running costs, were delighted with the donation.

Cara Varty, fundraiser for Hospice at Home, said: ‘The charity relies on the kindness of the community and this donation perfectly highlights the generosity of local businesses.

“We would like to thank all the staff at Mobile Mini for choosing to donate their winnings to Hospice at Home.

“This sum will provide many hours of vital care and support. We can’t say thank you enough.”
