Firefighters tackle Whitehaven grass fires

At 6:54pm yesterday, Monday 22 April one fire engine from Whitehaven was mobilised to reports of a fire in the open near Saltom Road, Whitehaven.

On arrival crews found approximately 100 square metres of grass and gorse well alight.

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Crews used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for approximately one hour.”

At 9:10pm yesterday one fire engine from Whitehaven was mobilised to reports of a fire in the open near High Road, Whitehaven.

On arrival crews found approximately 400 square metres of grass and gorse well alight.

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Crews used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for approximately one and a half hours.”
