Transformer: a winter’s tale

Geltsdale by Rachel Gibson

Spring may be well underway across Cumbria but the RSPB’s Geltsdale Gallery will soon be plunged into the depths of winter with its latest exhibition.

Opening Saturday 4 May, Transformer: a winter’s tale features a range of works by North Cumbria-based artist Rachel Gibson inspired by the coldest season and her love of the landscape and nature of the North Cumbrian Pennine Fells.

Featuring a mixture of painting, drawing and animation, Transformer : a winter’s tale is part of a series of works by Gibson that relate to the atmospheric shifts that happen as the seasons change.

Rachel Gibson says: “I have chosen to focus on the beauty of winter for this collection of work. The landscape is stripped back, revealing its bare bones. Colour is muted and form is clarified. It’s a time of reflection and transformation. Winter clears a path through the natural world and our human world, making way for spring.”

Transformer: a winter’s tale runs from Saturday 4 May until Sunday 21 July at the RSPB Geltsdale Gallery.

The RSPB Geltsdale Gallery is open daily 9am to 5pm.  For more information, please call 016977 46717 or alternatively email [email protected]
