H&H Group PLC Expands Geographical Coverage into Northern Lake District with Announcement of Acquisition of Smeatons
L-R: Robert Smeaton; Colin Tomlinson, Managing Director at H&H Land and Property and Richard Rankin, CEO of H&H Group.

Carlisle-based H&H Group PLC, has formally confirmed the acquisition and integration of Smeatons Estate Agency and Lettings Agency, along with its ten members of staff, into its residential property and rural agency business.

This acquisition amalgamates Smeatons with H&H King in the north of the county and Michael C L Hodgson based in the South Lakes.  This strategic acquisition is part of the Group’s ongoing development and expansion of its Estate Agency, Lettings and Land Agency businesses, to build on the strong heritage across the region.

Extending H&H’s already strong presence in Cumbria including land agency, enables the Group to offer increased access to its fully resourced property services in the Keswick and Cockermouth areas. With comprehensive access to the Cumbrian market, it also promises to optimise exposure for property owners. The added focus on offering additional services to sellers, buyers, landlords, tenants and land owners will capitalise on the shared business experiences based on local and national knowledge.

Giving further background, Richard Rankin, Chief Executive of H&H Group, said: “We have taken significant strides in expanding our estate and land agency businesses over the last few years and are delighted to confirm the acquisition of this successful business. Smeatons is a well-respected company that has served the local community with professionalism and integrity, and this represents the kind of business that H&H stands for.

“With such solid foundations, our aim is to meet the expectations of customers with an even greater competitiveness. We are confident that we will be able to add value to the current business model, and also add our specialist land agency services to support the rural and farming sectors in the Keswick and Cockermouth areas.”

Smeatons has served North Cumbria for over 30 years, and was originally founded by qualified Chartered Surveyor Robert Smeaton and his wife Marie. In the Northern Lake District and West Cumbria, it is known as a traditional and well-respected company, making it a natural fit for the H&H Group.

Robert Smeaton said: “H&H operate highly successful land and property businesses and I believe that this acquisition is a natural fit for both us as a company and for the needs of our customers going forward.  I am very much looking forward to working with the H&H team, going forward, myself and Marie and would like to thank everyone we have worked with over the years for their support.”

With a reputation as one of Cumbria’s leading estate agents, H&H expanded regional geographical coverage builds on the existing success of its professional estate agency services.  Working with farmers, landowners and commercial, leisure and residential portfolios, across the North of England and Southern Scotland H&H Land and Property offers expertise in every aspect of rural property.

Richard Rankin concludes: “We are totally committed to a customer-focused approach which seeks to not just sell houses, but to provide solutions and opportunities. Working with staff we will maintain and develop the services offered from all of our sites, with bespoke and specialist support delivered by our head office teams in Carlisle.”
