Police were called to the report of a two-vehicle collision at 10:44am this morning (2nd August), on St Georges Road, Millom.

The collision involved a Ford Edge and a Citron Picasso.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The driver of the Ford, a 79-year-old man from Haverigg, was airlifted to Preston hospital with serious injuries. A female passenger received minor injuries that were treated at the scene.

“The Citron was unoccupied at the time of the collision.

“The road is closed whilst a collision investigation is carried out.

“Congestion is likely in the area and delays are expected. Drivers are asked to plan their journeys accordingly.”

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Two fire engines from Millom and Ulverston were mobilised to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on St George`s road, Millom.

“Firefighters made the vehicles safe using environmental grabpacks, crews administered oxygen therapy to one casualty suffering from shock.

“Crews were in attendance for approximately one hour.”
