Choose Occupational Health, a Carlisle-based occupational health company has celebrated a decade of business by completing a ‘10 in 10’ health & well-being themed activity programme which started in September last year.

Each themed activity represents one successful year of business. Many of the activities, all with a health & wellbeing focus and linked to the company’s core values, were suggested by members of staff. They range from volunteering with local charities such as Carlisle Key, Carlisle Foodbank, Hospice at Home & Oak Tree Animals Charity, a staff mindfulness session, a health & well-being afternoon with Pilates and meditation, right through to a relaxing spa day. Staff also explored the local area by completing a Wainwright Walk at High Pike in Caldbeck.

One of the final activities was a competition giving team members the opportunity to name all of the rooms in their Hartington Place premises. In 2015, like many businesses in the city, Choose Occupational Health had to be evacuated from their building due to the floods and had to relocate. After a long transition period, thanks to the support of local organisations, family members and a band of volunteers, they are now at a permanent base. Naming the rooms will not only mark the end of the period of change but will create a lasting legacy, well beyond the 10-year celebrations. The winning theme chosen by Sandra, Managing Director for the office rooms is names of penguins which were put forward by Rachael Robinson, Office Administrator. Penguins are known for their great teamwork, they have good communication and they are intelligent. This felt like the best fit for the family run company.

Sandra said: “We are delighted to be celebrating a decade of business in Cumbria we are very proud of all that we’ve achieved. We are lucky to work with a wide range of businesses in all sorts of sectors, helping them to create a happier and healthier workforce – it’s our primary focus! We knew that we wanted to mark our anniversary with something that would really benefit members of the team and as we are all about health and well-being, we decided to theme all our activities around our core values. What better way to celebrate than to ensure we have a happy and healthy team ready to serve our clients in the future? The activities have proved to be a real team-building opportunity too and we’ve learned things about each other that would never have come up in normal day to day interactions! Bring on the next 10 years – we’re all fully focused and ready!”
