The M6 in Cumbria is closed northbound between J41 and J42 due to a road traffic collision and a large diesel spillage across the carriageway and will be closed until the early hours of tomorrow (Oct 28) while repair work is being carried out.

Police were called at approximately 6am today (Oct 27) to the report of a one vehicle collision to the M6 northbound.

The vehicle was a HGV, no one was injured.

Cumbria Police, emergency services and Highways England Traffic Officers are currently on scene and working to reopen the road as soon as it is safe.

Road users are advised to follow the “Solid Triangle” diversion symbols. Exit J41 then take the fourth exit on to the B5035 (eastbound). At Stoneybeck roundabout take the A6 northbound exit.Continue straight on through Plumpton and High/Low Hesket then take the fourth exit off the Golden Fleece roundabout and re-join the M6 at J42.

Further incident information is available from Highways England by visiting our www.trafficengland.com website and travel apps, or via our @HighwaysNWEST regional twitter feed. For urgent real time assistance, our 24/7 contact centre team is able to provide up to the minute information on 0300 123 5000.
