International MBA Graduands process to Carlisle Cathedral

On Wednesday 27 November the University of Cumbria celebrated the achievements of 150 international business and law postgraduate students, many of whom had family and friends visiting Cumbria for the first time. Students travelled with their families to Carlisle from across the globe to celebrate their achievements at the Wednesday afternoon ceremony and it was a truly international experience.

Olumuyiwa Adedeyo from Nigeria said: “My MBA programme has given me more exposure and I have been able to interact with people from different countries, cultures and economic sectors from all over the world. This has added value to my MBA and I have really enjoyed it. I am so proud to graduate today, it has been a special celebration.”

To date, the university has trained more than 2,000 senior international leaders from 120 different countries in leadership and sustainability through its partnership with Robert Kennedy College (Zurich, Switzerland).

Offering eleven unique Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Laws (LL.M) programmes, delivered online alongside a residency at one of the university’s campuses, our partnership with Robert Kennedy College allows students from all over the world to complete their course via distance learning.

Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management and Collaboration, David Murphy said: “The MBA is a distance learning programme but also has a residential module which takes place at our Ambleside campus. Over the years, students from over 100 countries have come together in the Lake District and learned from each other and that’s what make the course so special.

“We also learn from the students and their experiences. It really is a locally-global MBA programme,” he added.

Previous students have included a Zambian High Commissioner, third-sector agencies, NGOs, politicians, financiers, mining and shipping experts, medics and educators hailing from the Caribbean, South Africa, China, Canada, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Angola, Jamaica, Australia, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Vietnam, to name a few.

International Director for the University of Cumbria, Dee De Rocha said: “The Robert Kennedy College partnership is one of our most long standing and successful collaborations and we look forward to working ever more closely with them.

“We are working hard to strengthen our international links, so successful partnerships, such as those developed with the Deutsche Angestellten Akadamie  in Dusseldorf (Germany) and the Robert Kennedy College in Zurich, which is independently tipped to be one of the most successful and promising ‘Young Business Schools in 2020’ – are extremely important to us.”

The university also attracts many international students to its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in leadership and sustainability, business, paramedic practice and health, fields of nursing, policing, teaching and education, science and the outdoors, the arts, and theology.

The University currently attracts students from all over the world, but especially India, parts of Africa, plus Norway and Cyprus and is working hard to develop links with educational institutions in South East & East Asia, in particular Malaysia and China.

With campuses located in some of the country’s top locations, including two World Heritage Sites, the University of Cumbria is the UK’s only university to be set in a national park. Alongside Carlisle and the internationally renowned Lake District, historic Lancaster and buzzing London the university has a much wider reach than many people imagine.
