Carlisle beauty clinic VL Aesthetics has launched a new scheme to help Cumbrian victims of domestic violence.
Regifting Beauty will invite the clinic’s clients and others to help women in crisis by donating toiletries, skincare and beauty products.
The donations will go to west Cumbrian domestic violence support group Freedom Project, as well as to Carlisle Food Bank.
Vicky Pike, project manager at Freedom Project, says the donations will make a huge difference to the women they help.
“Very often they have fled home – they have literally had to leave everything and take the children,” she said.
“Many have nowhere to go and they have to access food bank vouchers to feed themselves and their children. When they leave, they just don’t have the money for things like toiletries.
“To be able to offer them this would be amazing, and I know how much they will appreciate it.”
VL Aesthetics managing director Vanessa Brown said: “Beauty products and toiletries are essentials that many of us take for granted but when women are in crisis they become luxuries that are out of reach. This is a simple way that we can help people going through a difficult time.”
There will be a donation box at the VL Aesthetic clinic in Kingstown and at some other local businesses. The scheme will run until the end of January 2020.
Freedom Project West Cumbria has helped 10,000 people in the 22 years it has been running, and it works with women and children who are victims of domestic abuse, as well as with perpetrators.
Last year 100 per cent of the five to 10-year-olds who were helped by Freedom Project counsellors said that they now felt safe or knew what to do if they were in an unsafe situation.
