Residents across Allerdale will see some changes to their bin collections over the Easter period.
Bins due to be collected on Good Friday, 10 April, will be collected as normal. However, with effect from Easter Monday, 13 April, bins will be collected one day later throughout the week – with those which would normally be collected on the Friday (17 April) collected on the Saturday (18 April) instead. Collections will be back to normal from the following week, commencing Monday 20 April 2020.
The suspension of garden waste collections due to the coronavirus remains in force. The decision was taken to free up crews and vehicles to protect other collections, such as household refuse, over the coming weeks and months, and to keep staff as safe as possible.
Glass, cans and plastic, paper and cardboard, trade waste and household waste collections are, at this time, being collected as scheduled. The suspension of green waste collections is in place until further notice but the council aims to resume them as soon as possible and the situation will be reviewed in June.
Residents can check when their next collection is by visiting www.allerdale.gov.uk/bincollections where they can also report a missed collection.
Tony Markley, Executive member for environmental services, said: “Our waste and recycling team along with the crews are working exceptionally hard to keep the service running as normal as it can during what are very difficult circumstances.
“We know there has been some changes recently due to the coronavirus response but we’re asking residents to play their part and make sure their bins are only placed out on the correct day as this will help limit the spread the virus.”
Residents are also asked to help protect themselves and crews by cleaning bin handles and washing their hands after moving them.
