Staveley housing scheme shortlisted for award

Crookfield, Staveley

A SOUTH Lakeland housing scheme is in the running for a prestigious award that recognises excellence in the built environment.

Castles & Coasts Housing Association’s Crookfield housing development in Staveley has been shortlisted for a LABC Building Excellence Award, which showcases excellent buildings, outstanding companies, and partnerships and individuals that go the extra mile. The scheme has been shortlisted in the Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development category of LABC’s Northern Awards.

Comprising ten affordable homes for rent and shared ownership and three open market sale dormer bungalows, the Crookfield development provided a major boost to a number of local families when it completed last year, providing affordable homes for residents who may otherwise have been forced to leave the area due to high private rent levels and a lack of suitable homes.

The scheme was built with sustainability and energy efficiency in mind. Each of the properties has the benefit of a new build guarantee and all have been subject to occupancy restrictions, with successful applicants having to demonstrate a connection to the locality of Staveley.

David Brown, Head of Development at Castles & Coasts Housing Association, said: “This is an outstanding scheme and one we are pleased to have delivered for the people of Staveley. To see it recognised in this way, making the shortlist of an award that is among the most prestigious in our industry, is fantastic.

“We believe that the communities we serve deserve only the highest quality schemes, and that’s what we strive to deliver, so having this validated by industry experts is a real endorsement and we’re delighted.”

The Crookfield development was built by Kendal-based housebuilder Russell Armer Ltd, with local estate agent Hackney & Leigh helping bring them to market.

“These homes were sorely needed in the area, and we are determined to deliver properties that add real value – both during construction and when they are completed. We have worked with local suppliers to deliver a scheme that is recognised as being among the best of its kind in the North of England.

Castles & Coasts will learn whether it has scooped the award on 24th September
