NFU Mutual staff spread Christmas cheer

Staff from NFU Mutual’s Cockermouth and Penrith volunteered at a foodbank in the run-up Christmas.

The team helped to pack Christmas hampers and toy parcels at The Salvation Army foodbank in Penrith.

The local NFU Mutual agency rotated a team of five staff members on Thursday December 17 to help put together hampers and toy parcels for local families needing support over Christmas.

They created over 110 hampers containing essential food as well as a few festive treats, which will go out to families struggling to make ends meet and where children might otherwise miss out on having a gift to open or a Christmas dinner on Christmas Day.

The day came about as part of the agency’s employee volunteering programme, which allows all employees across both offices to spend one day a year helping local charitable causes.

David Jones, agent, at NFU Mutual Penrith & Cockermouth, said: “As a business we strive to protect individuals, families and business whether it be with their insurances or investments.

“This year has shown us more than ever how everyone’s situations are individual and can change in the blink of an eye.

“The team wanted to give something back to those who may be struggling more than usual this Christmas and hoped to spread a little bit of joy across the community that we live and work in.”

Major Carole Donaldson, corps officer at Penrith’s Salvation Army, said: “We want to thank the team from NFU Mutual, who were brilliant, helping us pack more than a hundred food hampers that will be given to struggling families this Christmas.

“They also provided toys for our Christmas Present Appeal. It’s these generous donations and people kindly giving their time that helps us reach those that need us the most, and share the joy and hope of Christmas in what has been a difficult year.”
