Do you have some spare time and a love for the outdoors?
If the answer is yes, you could be one of the Lake District National Park Authority’s 150 new visitor support volunteers.
Visitor Support Volunteers are needed to work within the wider ‘Safer Lakes’ team to help guide and advise all visitors in some of the busiest places in the Lake District.
Volunteers are needed for the following areas:
- Grasmere and Rydal.
- Coniston, Buttermere and Borrowdale.
- Glenridding and Ullswater.
- Keswick to Threlkeld.
Volunteers need to be confident and comfortable talking to the public, have a passion for the Lake District and be willing to share their enthusiasm for and knowledge of the National Park with all visitors.
With the lifting of some lockdown restrictions from March 19 visitors are expected to start coming back to the Lake District.
The Lake District National Park would like to:
- Have their existing volunteers in place for the Easter holidays.
- Then add to the team in time to have everyone ready to go by May bank holiday.
- The focus until the school summer holidays will be weekends, and generally volunteers undertake shifts of four hours in pairs – although some volunteers prefer to be out all day.
- Ideally they would like volunteers to undertake a minimum of one duty per month.
- Volunteers will help people get the most of their visit to the Lakes, particularly those arriving for the first time. The volunteer role helps to protect the landscape, enable access to our local communities and promote a more sustainable way of exploring the National Park.
The volunteers will receive training and support.
Cumbria Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) and the Lake District National Park are hosting an online Get into Volunteering with the Lake District National Park volunteer information session on March 19, from 10am-11am via Zoom.
The session will be an opportunity to:
- Meet the Lake District National Park Authority Volunteer Team.
- Find out about the Lake District National Park.
This role is open to anyone 18 and over and who has some time, a passion for the Lake District and enjoys talking to the public.
