Carlisle have agreed a two-year deal for former Norwich City striker Tristian Abrahams.
London-born Abrahams, 22, started out as a youngster with Leyton Orient and signed his first professional deal with the O’s in November 2016.
A run of games for the youngster at the end of that season saw him score his first senior goals as he bagged twice in two consecutive outings against Luton and Hartlepool respectively.
He enjoyed a four-game loan spell with Cambridge City before making the switch to Norwich for an undisclosed fee in 2017.
Loan spells with Orient, Exeter and Yeovil followed whilst with the Canaries, and he left Carrow Road to join Newport County on a two-year contract in the summer of 2019.
He bagged 18 goals in 74 appearances in all competitions at Rodney Parade and spent the second half of last season back where it all began, at the Breyer Group Stadium, playing in another 14 games for the Orient.
Blues manager Chris Beech said: “I’m delighted with this one. Tristan is a really exciting player, he fits the way we look to play and has those physical attributes of pace power and strength, plus he’s got goals in him with his technical abilities.
“We actually had our eyes on Tristan last year, but Newport decided they wanted to keep him in the building, and he went on to score a flurry of goals for them early in the season.
“He’s at a great age and there’s real scope to work with him and develop his game. On his day he’ll cause all sorts of problems for opposition defenders.
“With the pace he has he’s been played out wide and straight down the middle,” he continued. “Given the platform to play to his strengths, and be supported by his team mates, I’m sure we will see a successful partnership.
“I’m excited to work with him. As with most players there’s work to do, but I’m really confident, and so is Tristan, of the outcome.
“In terms of character, I’ve been really impressed with his attitude. We had initial conversations last week on Tuesday and Wednesday over the phone. I always insist on meeting our potential targets face-to-face, and I got a message from Tristan immediately after our Wednesday night chat.
“He offered to jump on the train first thing the following day from his family home in London and come and see me.
“It’s important to have those conversations in-person because it allows us to share our Carlisle United core values and principles, giving both the player a much better view of where we’re at, and he can get to know us better as we also get to meet him to confirm our thoughts.
“Representing hard work and honesty is the minimum requirement demanded both from myself and our supporters. That stands us all in good stead for a healthy relationship on and off the pitch.
“Tristan represents these core values, which I’m sure will resonate with our fans. Like some of our other lads have done, he wants to commit to the area and give himself the best possible platform.
“I think this is a great move for us as a team and for Tristan as a player. He’s a quality player and really exciting to watch. I’ve no doubt our supporters will get right behind him and give him all the backing he needs to settle in and start scoring goals.”
