A Carlisle cosmetic clinic becomes the first in Cumbria to offer a new incontinence treatment.
VL Aesthetics, on Kingmoor Road in Carlisle, has invested in the region’s first Emsella chair – a revolutionary treatment that strengthens pelvic floor muscles and treats incontinence in both women and men.
It is the first clinic in Cumbria to offer the treatment, which has previously only been available in major cities such as London, Edinburgh and Manchester.
According to the NHS, one in three women over 35 are suffering with bladder weakness, often caused by a weak pelvic floor that can be a result of pregnancy.
Vanessa Brown, owner of VL Aesthetics, said: “Incontinence, whether it’s through age, childbirth, menopause or lifestyle, can affect anyone, especially women post-pregnancy.
“Often they find their pelvic floor muscles have weakened so much that it impacts day-to-day life, making them feel that they can’t leave the house without risk of an accident.
“We need to talk openly about this. It’s a taboo subject and that means people are suffering in silence, not realising that it is a common problem and that there is help available.
“We hope this campaign will make people realise they are not alone in their issue and give them the confidence to get the help they need.”
Electro-magnetic energy treatment
The Emsella chair – when sat upon fully clothed and supervised by a clinical nurse for 28 minutes – emits electro-magnetic energy that stimulates your pelvic floor muscles to contract 11,000 times per session, which is impossible to replicate through traditional exercise alone.
With two sessions per week for three consecutive weeks (six sessions overall), pelvic floor muscles will strengthen enough to considerably reduce the risk of bladder weakness and leaking – often fixing the problem completely.
Studies have shown that 95 per cent of patients experience a noticeable improvement in their symptoms after a course of treatment.
Vanessa said: “We recently invested in the Emsella chair – a life-changing service that will really make a huge difference. Now it’s time to help start the conversation about how common incontinence issues are and give people the confidence to not only talk about it, but to seek help to treat the issue.
“We pride ourselves on not only providing the best care for our patients, but being at the cutting edge of science and beauty, and we want to be able to provide a modern, pain-free solution to the incontinence problem.”
VL Aesthetics is encouraging anyone who wants to share their experience or support the campaign to use the hashtag #weeshouldtalk on social media.
Vanessa added: “All of our treatments aim to improve people’s quality of life and build their confidence, too. We hope this campaign will also go some way towards doing that.”
The business has also launched its #weeshouldtalk campaign to open up the conversation about incontinence and give people the confidence to discuss their issues and get the treatment they need.
