A Carlisle school says it may be forced to close if the coronavirus situation doesn’t improve as it confirms more than 500 pupils are now working from home.
An outbreak at Trinity School means two year group bubbles are currently affected and are now working from home, involving about 540 pupils. There are 1,650 pupils at the Strand Road school.
A statement from the school said: “Like many schools across the county Trinity School is dealing with an increasing number of COVID-19 infections among staff and pupils.
“We are working closely with the county’s public health team to manage the outbreak but inevitably the situation is causing significant disruption to normal school operation.
“At the current time two year group ‘bubbles’ are not in school, affecting approximately 540 pupils. The school has a wide range of COVID-safe control measures in place, but if the situation does not improve then closure of the school site may be necessary.
“We will do all we can to avoid that while maintaining pupil and staff safety. We understand and share the frustration felt by pupils and parents, but unfortunately, the pandemic is not yet over and we must take steps to prevent further spread of the virus.
“We will keep the school community informed as the situation develops.”
