Barrow mum Diane Thompson’s name is in lights after she spent lockdown studying for a new job.
Diane, of Ormsgill, was struggling to find work during the pandemic – but used her enforced spare time to take remote learning classes with the help of computer courses and video calls.
Now, having achieved qualifications in functional skills and a level 2 customer service award, she has landed a starring role as a customer services advisor at her local Vue Cinema.
“It was easy to access the online learning and gave me the flexibility to work when it suited me,” she said. “This was good as I was home schooling and needed to share the computer.”
The course, run by PHX Training, enabled Diane to develop her skills communicating with customers, handling problems, and studying the key principles of quality customer service.
She said: “I am excited to be starting work again and using my new understanding of customer service to help me in my role. I believe that through working with staff at PHX Training, my confidence has grown and I have been able to add new qualifications to my CV, which has certainly helped me in getting back to work.”
PHX Training, which has centres in Barrow, Carlisle and Workington, delivers government-backed initiatives including adult skills, employability contracts and apprenticeships.
