Barrow RNLI volunteers were called out to recover a 28ft yacht drifting in the Walney Channel.
The RNLI was called at around 10.55pm by the Coastguard after the yacht was spotted by the crew of another yacht, moored off Piel Island.
It appeared to be drifting towards Barrow’s lifeboat station.
The all-weather lifeboat Grace Dixon was launched at about 11.15pm under the command of coxswain, Shaun Charnley, assisted by a crew of six.
The lifeboat was quickly alongside the vessel and it was established that there was nobody on board.
The yacht was dragging its mooring in the strong rising tide. Two lifeboat crew members were transferred to the yacht to attach a tow line so that it could be moved to a more secure mooring east of the lifeboat station and clear of the navigation channel.
With the vessel safe, the lifeboat returned to the lifeboat station at 12.30am.
