Workington Comets closed after a successful 2018 season but three years down the line a host of former riders are still turning in quality performances.
In three of last night’s Championship meetings, ex-Workington riders put in top-scoring performances for their latest clubs.
George Williams followed the Comets since their first formation in 1970 and was hugely disappointed by their demise in 2018.
“I live in hope that the Comets will ride again but like a lot more old supporters I take a keen interest in following the careers of the lads who have ridden for Workington in previous years,” he says.
Ulrich Ostergaard, Charles Wright and Tero Aarnio were top-scorers for their teams who all won on a busy night of speedway.
Glasgow maintained the Championship leadership with a comfortable 55-35 win over Newcastle at Ashfield as Ostergaard kept up his terrific form.
The Dane was beaten just once on his way to 13+1, with possible maximums for both himself and another ex-Comet Craig Cook (11+1) both being spoiled by Diamonds No.1 Ben Barker, who beat Cook twice.
Scunthorpe equalled the biggest win in the Championship this season with a 63-27 demolition of Kent at the Eddie Wright Raceway and Aarnio completed a paid maximum (14+1).
Redcar were taken to a last-heat decider by Birmingham before securing a 48-42 victory at the Media Prima Arena with skipper Wright top-scoring on 12.
