A jury in the trial of a retired doctor who denies his driving caused the death of an elderly pedestrian in Brampton has been discharged.
Roger Williams, 71, was charged after his Ford C-Max and 72-year-old Penny Bains were in collision at a Main Street pedestrian crossing on the late afternoon of December 20, 2018.
Williams went on trial at Carlisle Crown Court earlier this week when a jury began to hear evidence in the case.
But this afternoon, the jury of seven women and five men was discharged from reaching a verdict in the case by Judge Paul Lawton.
The judge told jurors that the decision followed a discussion involving counsel in the case over a matter of law.
A new date for the trial of Williams, of Hethersgill, near Brampton, was fixed for January next year.
