Workington Reds will be sending a mixed squad for tonight’s Shaun Hocking Memorial Trophy game against Whitehaven Amateurs.
A number of players from the development squad will augment the regular first teamers who have been short of game time in the previous friendlies.
Definitely not playing are new full back Kieran Charlton, Saturday’s man of the match Dan Wordsworth and record goal-scorer Scott Allison.
Both Charlton and Wordsworth have sore knees and will be rested but expect to be available again on Saturday when Reds travel to Consett.
Allison is waiting for the results of a scan on his shoulder which was put back into joint at the West Cumberland Hospital after it popped out after the game with Carlisle United.
“Scotty is waiting for his appointment to find out if there had been any ligament or tendon damage. It’s the third time he has suffered a dislocated shoulder and is wondering whether it needs pinned,” said acting manager Steven Rudd.
Reds travel to Consett on Saturday and may have a new manager in place for then, although there has been no recent update from Borough Park.
The quality and diversity of the seven un-named applicants has been widely praised by chairman Dave Bowden.
