Search at Brothers Water

A senior firefighter says that the searches for two men in two different lakes are now being led by police dive teams.

Divers are now searching Crummock Water for a man who got into difficulty swimming with a friend.

It is now the sixth day of searching.

A multi-agency search was also launched at 6.55pm yesterday after a man in his 30s went into Brothers Water for a swim.

Stuart Hook, group manager for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, who attended both incidents, described them as “similar” in nature.

“We’ve now handed the search over to police divers,” he said.

“They were last seen going underwater by friends and they haven’t turned up anywhere else later.

“Police divers are searching the lakes.”

Stuart advised people who decide to swim to never go into the water alone, be mindful of their ability as a swimmer and be aware of the risks of cold water shock.
