Carlisle MP John Stevenson visited the Oak Tree Animals’ Charity in Wetheral to help highlight its work.

The charity has been helping animals in the area for over 122 years.

The charity’s mission is to help companion animals in need, and  it is involved in fostering and rehoming animals, offering advice and training to the community, and  supporting vulnerable pet owners. Their main aim is to ensure that every animal that comes in to their care ends up in the right home for that individual animal.

The charity is keen for people to visit the site at Wetheral Shields which boasts 60 acres of outdoor space, a host of well cared for animals from ponies to cats to dogs, a children’s play area and outdoor trails, a coffee shop and several start up local businesses.

The charity is keen to work on some of the issues affecting pet ownership like the issue of private landlords not allowing pets in properties, and the need for licensing arrangements for charities of this nature, going forward. John has given his full support to the organisation and undertaken to help with these issues.

The charity also puts on events for the community and has a number of pony fun and animal care days coming up over the summer.

Mr Stevenson said: “It was great to visit the Oak Tree Animals Charity today and see first hand the fantastic facilities and the care given to these animals in need.

“Being the proud owner of Woody, a rescue dog himself from Oak Tree, I am fully supportive of the charity’s endeavours and will be adding my voice to their call for change.

“I would encourage everyone to join me and get behind this charity and visit the facilities for themselves.”
