North Wales Crusaders put Workington Town top of League One by beating Barrow on Sunday.
But Town should beware as Anthony Murray’s side visit Derwent Park at the weekend, intent on a quick Cumbrian double.
After the 23-10 win over Barrow, Murray said: “The return of fans to home matches has really given the players and the coaching staff a lift since they have been back.
“Our fans make a massive difference to the players when they’re out there. We’ve always said our supporters are our 18th man so it’s great to see them back and all getting behind their players.”
It was a satisfying win for Murray, who played for Barrow and later briefly coached the Raiders for four matches.
The League placings are based on win percentage so after Town won at West Wales and Barrow lost in the principality the two changed places.
Town still have to host Barrow after their title shoot-out was postponed because of COVID in the south Cumbrian club.
Looking at the two clubs’ remaining fixtures, Barrow’s best chance of going back top would be to win a re-arranged game at Workington.
But Barrow coach Paul Crarey has already gone on record as saying re-arranging the game in mid-week is not as easy as people might think.
“It’s probably as easy for us to go straight down the motorway to places like Keighley and Rochdale as it is going up the coast.
“There is a backlog of games all over the place so we probably just have to get through those and see what happens,” said the Barrow coach.
At the moment Town are on 86.36 per cent from 11 games played while Barrow are second on 80.77 per cent from 13 games.
As well as Barrow, Town still have to arrange games at home to Coventry and away to Rochdale.
