Hensingham collected their first win in the Cumbria section of the National Conference regional competition.
But the West Cumbrians had to withstand a second-half fight-back by visitors Millom before collecting the spoils 36-26.
Just a few minutes before half-time the hosts were enjoying a 30-4 lead.
Niall Harris had scored the only Millom points with an unconverted try at that stage but Jonathan Hodgson went over and Jack Newbegin converted to cut the deficit at the break.
Austin Morris and Kyle Evans continued the fight-back with tries inside six minutes after the resumption, and Newbegin converted both.
At 30-22 it was game on and Hensingham needed a Kurt Maudling try, converted by Jack Kellett to get them moving again.
Rio Wilson-McQuiston scored the final try of the game for the Woollybacks but that was as close as they came to salvaging it.
Earlier, in building their lead, Hensingham’s tries were scored by Steve Smith (2), Finn Barwise, Aaron Turnbull and Kellett who finished with six goals.
With Wath Brow looking home and hosed with a 100 per cent record it seems to be between Kells and Barrow Island for the other qualification place.
The Island overcame a stiff challenge at Egremont Rangers to win 22-16.
It was tight all the way through to the final quarter when the visitors pulled away.
Kie Green, Fraser McNee and Jenson Burney scored the Egremont tries with Billy Thompson kicking two goals.
Barrow Island won with tries from Aiden Wright (2), Ally McKeown and Adam Jackson with three goals from Sam Jones.
With percentage win rates likely to decide things, Kells are currently on 66.66 and Barrow Island on 60.00.
Barrow Island host Hensingham on Saturday but the only other game is Millom v Egremont Rangers.
