National tyre wholesaler RH Claydon Limited has begun construction work on its new depot in Carlisle.

The family business was established in 1953 by Roy Claydon and is now recognised as one of the UK’s leading suppliers of tyres. They operate from six depots regionally located in Swindon, Falkirk, Scunthorpe, Handforth, Launceston and Bury St Edmunds.

The business will create five full-time jobs including the appointment of an apprentice with plans to increase this further as their base on Kingmoor Park Enterprise Zone grows.

The location was selected to service a growing Northern client base due to its access to transport links.

Following a successful planning application with Carlisle City Council, the firm has begun construction work on the base, which will compromise a 30,000sqft warehouse with purpose-built office space.

“We are delighted to be commencing work on our new depot in Carlisle on Kingmoor Park and look forward to providing employment in Carlisle,” said RH Claydon Limited director Clive Maskell.

“The site was strategically chosen to enable us to improve on our service to our existing customers and to furthermore increase our customer base. Kingmoor Park has excellent transport links and will quickly become a valuable addition to our list of sites.”

Elsewhere on Kingmoor Park Enterprise Zone planning permission has been submitted for an extension to the solar field which could increase the solar yield by more than 350 per cent and plans are underway for more containers to arrive at the ModVillage development.

Kingmoor Park Properties managing director, Neil McIntyre said: “It has been excellent to see the works beginning at RH Claydon’s new depot on Kingmoor Park North this week. We’d like to wish them every success as they grow their business in Carlisle and look forward to seeing what the future will bring.”
