Youngsters joining a West Cumbrian secondary school next month have been taking part in activities to prepare them.
Netherhall School in Maryport is set to welcome its largest intake of new year seven pupils – 150 – for many years next month.
It has been holding summer school sessions, which have been attended by 120 youngsters.
The students have enjoyed activities including football, netball, tennis, rounders, a mini-Olympic Games competition, IT, ceramics, photography, drawing and painting.
Mark Bailey, deputy headteacher, said: “The sessions have been incredibly well received by the students and I would like to thank the teachers for providing such a brilliant introduction to life at Netherhall School for our new students over the last week.
“I would also like to thank our outstanding canteen staff for the fantastic meals that have been served to both students and staff all week.
“Thanks to our canteen manager Pam Phillips and her team this week – Helen Needham, Ericko Carter and Sheree Teasdale.”
He added that a number of the new pupils said they enjoyed the activities.
Mr Bailey said: “Well done to all the new year seven students for showing such a brilliant attitude throughout the first week of our summer school; they have made many new friends, learned many new skills and most importantly they have had fun.
“They are a brilliant group of students and are a huge credit to their families, the primary schools they have joined us from, who they are representing with distinction, and now as students of Netherhall School.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone back next week for the second week of our summer school.”
