Workington Reds’ FA Cup exit in mid-week has prompted a change in fixture next Saturday.
Victory at Marine, instead of a 2-1 extra-time defeat, would have taken them to Dunston in the first qualifying round.
Instead, the west Cumbrians will host Market Drayton Town on September 4 in an NPL West Division fixture.
It represents the longest trek of the season for the Shropshire club, who are new to NPL West this season and have never played Workington before. The game has been brought forward from December.
Meanwhile, Reds are preparing for a busy weekend with a home game tomorrow against Marine and a trip to Clitheroe 48 hours later on bank holiday Monday.
The biggest problem for manager Chris Willcock, ahead of act three of the Workington/Marine mini-series is who will be back to try and help Reds to their first win over the Merseysiders.
“I think it’s unfortunate that we haven’t managed a win in either of the two games so far, after certainly being the better side in both for much of the games.
“I was absolutely delighted with two cracking goals we scored. One came after we had put together 33 passes, which is phenomenal, and the other was a really quality strike.
“The problem we have got, though, is a number of players have picked-up knocks and with two games in 48 hours we are going to have to manage the situation carefully and we certainly won’t be taking risks with anyone,” said Willcock.
The team had travelled to Marine on Tuesday without four regulars. They also had another senior player on the bench who wasn’t used along with the second choice goalkeeper, while three teenagers were also substitutes (two of whom came on).
