The race for the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL Premier Division title has been thrown into confusion by another postponement.
It has ended in a straight fight between Wath Brow A and Ellenborough with reigning champions Distington just set to miss out.
But Wath Brow needed to win their last two games to pip Ellenborough, who are currently three points better off.
Unfortunately tomorrow’s opponents Glasson Rangers have had to pull out of the fixture because they are unable to raise a team. Last week they only had the bare 13 for the derby game with Ellenborough and they crashed to an 82-16 defeat.
The problem is points are not being awarded or deducted because of postponements, which would mean Wath Brow A can’t catch Ellenborough even if they were to beat the Allerdale side next Saturday.
League secretary Lorraine Degraffe said: “To be quite honest it’s been an absolute nightmare this season mainly because of the circumstances we are trying to operate under.
“We have had 31 games postponed and this one, Wath Brow A and Glasson is being postponed for the third time.
“It was agreed at the start of the season, because of the restraints of Covid, no points would be given or taken away because of postponements.
“I will be speaking with the rest of the committee about the situation we are in at the moment.”
The other game scheduled for tomorrow – Aspatria v Egremont A – has also been called off because of a shortage of players.
