Pedestrian access to Whitehaven harbour will be maintained during the building of the new coastal activities centre, due to start next month.
Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners chief executive John Baker said access to the West Pier and Old New Quay will be maintained while work on The Edge is undertaken by principal contractor Thomas Armstrong.
He said: “It is very important to us that people’s enjoyment of these areas of the harbour can continue while work is underway on The Edge.
“Access will be via the track to the rear of the coastal battery and lime kiln.
“Emergency vehicles and contractors will also be able to use this path to access the harbour and lighthouses.”

Wellington Inn Car Park will be closed for the duration of the project as access will not be possible during the work. Construction of The Edge is scheduled to be completed in December 2022.
Funded by Sellafield Ltd and The Coastal Communities Fund, plans for the unique centre include recreational and storage facilities, an indoor arts and events space, a cafe, public toilets and overnight accommodation.
