After seeing their long unbeaten run ended in the Wearside League, Windscale returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 home win over Washington Utd.
The teams produced an entertaining game despite having to cope with intermittent heavy rain showers and a stiff breeze blowing down the pitch.
Similar to the reverse fixture earlier in the season which ended in a 2-2 stalemate, both teams enjoyed an even amount of possession.
Washington had the wind at their back in the first period but wasted some good play by over-hitting passes to their strikers with the ball harmlessly running out of play.
Windscale created two excellent chances for Matty Pierce and Kieran Fraser but neither player was able to convert.
It was Washington who came the nearest to opening the scoring when James Mariner fired in a header from a corner which fortunately for Windscale struck the bar with keeper Ian Studholme stranded.
Despite both teams best efforts there was no score when the teams left the pitch for the half time interval.
Windscale coped better with the conditions during the second period and began to enjoy more possession.
They had pace down both wings using this to get behind the Washington rear-guard. However, they were unable to unduly trouble Aidan Mutch, the Washington custodian.
With 25 minutes of the game left to play, the match official controversially dismissed Windscale centre back Steve Walker.
Rather than feeling the world was against them, this galvanised the home side into action. Making a few substitutions in order to freshen things up, the home team took the lead with 12 minutes remaining.
It was Lewis White, vacating his position at left back and charging forward into the opposition half, fired in a 30-yard daisy cutter into the bottom left hand corner, a goal worthy of winning any match.
Despite the imbalance in numbers, Windscale managed to see out the rest of the game and take the three points.
