Strong running forward Conor Fitzsimmons, who was a leading award winner with Workington Town last season, has signed a new two-year deal with the club.
Fitzsimmons, 23, was joint Player of the Year along with Brad Holroyd, and picked up three other trophies at Saturday’s presentation night.
He was the Town Supporters Club Player of the Year in memory of George Petre; The Derwent Park Supporters Club Player of the Year and the coveted Players’ Player of the Year, as voted by his team-mates.
Fitzsimmons, 23, and a former Seaton amateur, is delighted to have agreed a new deal with his hometown club and said it wasn’t a hard decision to make.
Head coach Chris Thorman said Fitzsimmons had started his career in a great environment at Castleford Tigers and has just experienced a superb season in League One.
“He understands what it is to be a professional. He applies himself in all aspects of training and playing and has his best years ahead of him,” he said.
Fitzsimmons made his Super League debut for Castleford in 2016 and played twice in the top flight before joining Workington on loan.
In the 2017 season he played 22 games while on his first spell at Derwent Park before switching for two seasons to Newcastle Thunder where he played 48 games and scored 11 tries.
He returned to Town on a permanent basis last year and has just enjoyed the best season of his career – with power to add.
