
The United Club took full advantage of their home fixture In round four of the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League.
In a tense affair they defeated fellow Division Two side Workington Veterans Club B, 3-2 to top the table on nine points.
A victory for Vets’ Shane Evitts in the first was soon cancelled out by United’s Mark Suitor and as team mate Clive Lister won the next the United Club stood 2-1 to the good.
The most comprehensive win of the night went down to Vets Richard Kirkham in the next to take the match to a decider.
However as Andrew Mitchelhill chipped away in the last the United captain eventually led his team to a very satisfying victory. Vets B sit second in the Division Two table on five points.
Workington’s Station Road B delivered their second whitewash in as many weeks as they defeated club rivals Station Road A 5-0 to maintain their top spot in the Division 1 table on 17 points.
Two scrappy victories for Kevin Kirkham and Simon Frazer gave Station B a 2-0 advantage but with a brilliant break of 49 Peter O’Hagan took the standard up a level to move the score-line to 3-0.
Another relatively low scoring win, this time from Shaun Ayre, made it 4-0 and with Station B captain Stephen O’Hagan winning the last on the black the drubbing was complete. Station A prop up the Division One table on six points.
Workington Conservative Club stay second in Division One on 15 points as they defeated Whitehaven’s Rack Shack with a 4-1 home victory.
Richard McCarthy and Dave Holland quickly made it 2-0 to the Cons outfit but with a solid win in the third Rack Shack’s Andy Moore pulled one back.
The Cons Club were having none of the comeback pressure however and with a sweeping victory for Julian Plaza followed by steady win from Ryan Barker the Workington side romped to victory. The Rack Shack stay third in the Division Two table on four points.
Finally, Division One’s Workington Golf Club produced a brilliant away win as they defeated Division Two’s Maryport Social, 5-0.
Ryan Ismay looked to be on the losing end of a black ball win in the first but as his opponent went in off on the final ball the golfer’s went 1-0 up.
The Golf Club’s momentum then gradually gathered pace and as each frame passed the job seemed to get easier with Mark Brasted, Mark Cowen, Stephen Jackson and Phil Sorfleet all running out victors in a comprehensive match win.
The Golf Club sit fourth in Division One on 10 points and Maryport Social remain at the bottom of Division Two on just three points.
