Kendal’s senior Colts took centre stage at Mint Bridge over the weekend following the postponement of the first team fixture at Birkenhead Park.
The newly-promoted under-18s responded with a fine performance to beat Southport’s Senior Under-18s 36-0 in front of a decent crowd.
This was Kendal’s first game for the combined senior Colts in the Senior E Halbro Colts Conference.
They put out a good mix of senior and junior Colts who all got their run-out ‘match minutes quota’ on the day.
Tries from Ben Howe (2), McKenzie Cousins (2), Dan Wilson and Luke Atkinson, along with three conversions by Aaron Stephens made up the scoreline.
As Southport arrived with a reduced squad Kendal Colts provided players to keep both teams at 15-a-side, although the match was eventually cut short after 63 minutes.
One of the Southport players suffered a serious-looking knee injury. Fortunately, the suspected dislocation managed to correct itself later that afternoon, allowing the player to down his chicken and chips before hobbling to the car for a hospital check-up.
Kendal Colts are back in action on Sunday when they visit Altrincham Kersal and the next home game is on December 12 against Newcastle (Under Lyme, Staffs).
