Hooker Blain Marwood has decided to leave Workington Town and return to the community game in the south of the county.

The 23-year-old first joined Town on trial from Barrow Island in 2019 and was then awarded a contract.

He signed a new two-year deal around this time last year and has been warmly thanked by the Derwent Park club for his efforts in Town colours.

“He’s been a fantastic part of our club for the past few seasons,” Town said on their official website.

Marwood had been a key player for Barrow Island and it is thought that’s where he might be returning for the 2022 season.

He was the National Conference League Division Three Player of the Year in 2018 and was also named Man of the Series for Cumbria in their tri-counties campaign.

Marwood’s father Dean was a popular player in a successful Workington side in the 1990s and during Town’s one year stint in the inaugural Super League season appeared 16 times and kicked 23 goals.

Marwood senior played 135 games for Town, plus 8 subs appearances, between 1991 and 1996. He scored 31 tries, landed 470 goals, plus 8 drop goals, for a total of 1,072 points.
