A Cumbrian gin has won an international award.
Wolftown Gin, created in Ulverston, was awarded a gold medal in the prestigious 2021 Europe International Wine & Spirits Trophy, which is the biggest wine and spirits competition in Europe.
Wines and spirits from 45 countries enter and are blind tasted by a panel of 85 judges.
John McKeown, founder of Wolftown, said “The sheer number of extremely qualified judges involved and the chance to compete with thousands of excellent spirits from around
the world, plus the stringent judging criteria of quality, value and packaging, makes this award a special one.
“We are delighted that our Wolftown Gin performed so well at the competition.
“This gold medal demonstrates that the gin we produce is the kind that buyers and importers in Europe will want to stock and will further our ambition of being sold on the continent.
“With the previous accolades we have received from The London Spirits Competition, The Spirits & Drinks Business, Guild of Fine Food and cocktail bible Difford’s Guide, we are
more than satisfied that we have created a gin that stands out in a very crowded market.”
The brand, based at Little Salkeld Watermill, launched a citrus gin in October.
