A Cockermouth photographer’s work has been nominated for a prestigious award.
Chris Freer has been shortlisted in the final of the Guild of Photographers Image of the Year competition.
The guild, a UK-based photographers association, has chosen the 10 best entries from over 13,000 images submitted throughout the last 12 year for its monthly competitions.
Chris said: “In my 15 years of professional photography I have never known a year as challenging for the wedding industry as 2021, at times it’s been overwhelming for us all and has defiantly required a lot of focus in maintaining high standards of imagery.
“Entering the Guild of Photographers competition is a good way to see how my images stack up against some of the finest photographers in the country.
“Being picked as one of the 10 shortlisted images from the thouands of entries this year is a privilege and one that was rather unexpected. I really looking forward to seeing how it’s judged in the final.
“It has been quite remarkable year for awards as I’ve been shortlisted for five in total and in two of them I’ve been lucky enough to be voted the winner.
“Receiving accolades from within the wedding industry means a great deal and makes me very proud to have built my wedding photography business up from scratch all those years ago.”
Guild director Lesley Thirsk said: “One of the guild’s aims is to drive standards and creativity amongst photographers.
“Our competition certainly does that, for the standard of the entries we see each month is quite staggering. To have an image recognised by the Guild in the monthly competition is difficult enough, so to have an image selected as being one of the best in a category for the end of year final is without doubt an incredible achievement, and shows just how talented photographer, Chris is.”
The winner will be announced in February.
