The mayor of Kendal’s annual Christmas coffee morning has been postponed.
The event was due to be held tomorrow but Douglas Rathbone has decided to postpone it to the new year due to rising cases of coronavirus in the county.
He said: “We are bitterly disappointed to lose another of our events.
“Everyone had worked so hard to get the town hall ready.
“The Kendal Concert Band would have sounded lovely in the festive setting.
“But we have to put the safety of the public and our volunteers and staff first.
“The data is showing that this isn’t like previous variations of the virus.
“It is super-contagious, and we should be doing everything we can to lessen the impact. These are simple precautions we can take to help.”
The council hopes to hold the event, which raises money for the mayor’s charities – The Well Communities and Christians against Poverty – in the new year.
Raffle prizes will be held over for a subsequent event.
