Three supporters groups at Workington Town have pooled their resources to produce a team-building fundraiser – with a very special prize.
A pair of VIP tickets for an Ed Sheeran concert at Wembley in late June – worth £1,740 – are up for grabs with the winner being picked out at Town’s Featherstone Rovers game on February 13.
Sheeran, the artist who holds the record for the fastest sell-out of a Wembley concert, is not expected to perform on stadium tours after this year, so this particular gig could be a bit special.
The tickets – as the price suggests – are not run-of-the-mill admissions. They will provide a champagne welcome, a four-course meal, the best seats in the house and entry to the after-party.
Retired local businessman George Andrews is hoping the fundraiser will prove a huge success and boost the club’s team-building fund.
He said: “It’s going to be a big challenge going into the Championship this season and the quality of some of the teams who will visit Derwent Park is quite staggering.
“Three of the club’s supporters groups have got on board and are working together to try and make it a huge success, providing the club with vital funds to help strengthen the squad.
“We are fortunate in having an outstanding coach in Chris Thorman and I think it’s important we provide him with as much ammunition as possible.”
The Derwent Park Support Group, the Traveller’s Rest Supporters Club and a small group of fans who have got together as Cash for Town through the pandemic, are involved in the project.
They have between 30 and 40 fans actively involved in the three groups and are hoping that they can sell up to 2,000 tickets before February 13. Tickets cost £10.
