Barrow’s Congolese striker Offrande Zanzala is joining Exeter City on a loan deal for the rest of the season.
The 24-year-old has scored five goals in 27 games since joining in the summer on a two-year deal from Carlisle United.
He had not scored in his last 10 appearances, and was more often than not included on the bench prior to picking up a slight injury.
He was not included in the Barrow squad which played at Barnsley in the FA Cup yesterday but that was not because of any injury issue.
Manager Mark Cooper said: “He is going to sign for Exeter on loan. He has lost his confidence and we realise he needs to go somewhere to get that back and he has a great opportunity at a great club at Exeter and play some games and score some goals over the remainder of the season.”
Zanzala, who emigrated with his family from the Republic of the Congo to Austria aged one due to the Civil War, has a career record of 26 goals in 131 games.
He and his family came to Britain in 2006 and he joined Derby County’s academy from where went out on loan to Stevenage and Chester.
A loan move to Accrington Stanley in 2018 led to a permanent move where he spent two seasons, scoring 11 goals in 57 games.
He then joined Crewe Alexandra in July 2020, but only lasted six months and five games failed to produce a goal.
His career then took him to Carlisle United where he scored five times in 22 games before staying in Cumbria with Barrow, joining in the summer.
Exeter have been searching for a striker for a while – even before Sam Nombe picked up a hamstring injury last month – and Zanzala will join Ben Seymour, Padraig Amond, Matt Jay and Jevani Brown as options for Matt Taylor in the front line.
