
The semi-finalists for the Cumberland County League’s Benevolent Cup were decided when Whitehaven Miners took on Mirehouse in the outstanding tie.
It was Miners who progressed, winning the contest 3-1 with goals from Alan Cardy, Lewis Park and Matthew Williams. Bradley Dryden reduced the arrears for Mirehouse.
The semi-final draw gives Miners a home advantage over Premier Division Northbank, while Pirelli will entertain Cockermouth in an all-Premier Division clash.
In the Premier Division, basement club Northbank put the brakes on current leaders Aspatria’s run to the title in a 3-3 stalemate.
Cameron Smith (2) and Jonny Haughan scored for Northbank with Aspatria’s goals coming from their regular goal scoring duo, Richard Hudson (2) and Andrew Trestianu.
Workington Reds Development earned three valuable points with a 3-1 home victory over mid-table Cockermouth. Matty Foster, Thomas Downes and Tom Skinner hit the net for the Reds, with Kyran Bertram reducing the deficit for Cockermouth.
Wigton Harriers took on Maryport Athletic, with the clubs in third and fourth places respectively.
It was Maryport who took the honours in a close contest with a 2-1 victory reducing the deficit between the teams to one point. Joe Hetherington and Attlee-Jack Skillen scored the Athletic goals, with Harriers taking the game to the wire through a strike from Andy Hill.
Workington Athletic travelled to Carlisle to take on City’s Development team, returning west with the points in a 4-1 win.
This result keeps Athletic on the heels of Aspatria in the run-in for the title. Tommy Whitehead, Eli Demetriou and a double from Connor Hammell completed the scoring for Athletic.

The Division One fixture between the Reserve teams of Cleator Moor and Whitehaven Amateurs, resulted in a 3-1 victory for Celtic.
Lucas Craigie, Dan Williamson and Stuart Shaw scored for the green and whites, while a strike from Connor Edwards kept the Amateurs in the contest until the final whistle.
Windscale Reserves welcomed Silloth to the Falcon Complex with the home team finishing 6-0 victors in their penultimate league fixture.
The Atoms led 4-0 at the interval with a hat trick from Lewis Selkirk and a strike from player manager, Dale Hooper.
Play was more even in the second period however. Windscale added two further goals with Lewis Selkirk adding his fourth and a Tony Nicholson effort completing the total.
In their last game of the League programme next week, Windscale entertain UniSun Athletic with the result potentially having a bearing on UniSun’s bid for the Division One Championship.
