Penrith claimed back-to-back wins for just the second time this season when they beat West Allotment Celtic 2-0.
Two goals from top scorer Jamie Armstrong has given a little breathing space for the Blues over the relegation trap door.
After a vital 1-0 win over struggling Northallerton last week, they were able to follow-up against a Celtic side unbeaten in its previous six games.
Chairman Billy Williams said: “We went there thinking a point would be a good achievement because of their recent run but we thoroughly deserved the victory.
“It was the worst pitch I have seen in all my time in football and the players can feel proud of how they handled themselves on the rough surface.
“I’d like to think we can extend our winning run beyond two now and continue our climb out of trouble.
“We have a home game against Whickham next week and they are eighth, before we go away for a crucial game at Bishop Auckland who are next to bottom.”
Keeper Aaron Taylor had kept Penrith on terms with a fine save to turn a home effort onto the bar before the Cumbrians took the lead.
Former Carlisle United youth team player Jamie Armstrong finished really well after a good run from midfield after 39 minutes.
Taylor was never seriously tested again and in the second-half Armstrong clinched the points with his second on 70 minutes.
Williams added: “The return of our long-serving centre half Grant Davidson has been a real boost for us. He was out for three months and we look a lot stronger in defence since his return.”
Penrith’s two successive victories have been accompanied by clean sheets.
