Runcorn Linnets have banned a supporter for the rest of the season after he was involved in trouble after the game with Workington on January 29.

It was alleged that two chairs were thrown into a group of Workington fans standing at the bar in the clubhouse.

A statement from the the Runcorn club’s trust board said: “Following a review of the CCTV, a supporter has been banned for the remainder of this season. We will also be issuing final warnings to anyone else who was actively involved in the incident.”

Reds won the game 2-1 to continue their unbeaten run and near the end plastic bottles were thrown into goalkeeper Jim Atkinson’s penalty area by home supporters.

The Linnets said: “Stewards will be better positioned to identify offenders. Anybody identified throwing missiles will be banned from the ground indefinitely. The club could also face financial sanctions as a result.”

The trust board also say they are going to make the tunnel area more secure and to deal with supporters gathering outside the ground after games.

The statement added: “Our attendances have increased much more than anyone at the club could have imagined and we need to ensure that we have the correct resources and processes in place to keep everyone safe.”

The game with the Reds attracted the Linnets best-ever League crowd of 963.
