Young West Cumbrian Kyle Bickley is over a bout of COVID and looking forward to the 2022 challenge with Berwick’s two teams – the Bandits and the Bullets.
Workington-based Bickley, who will be 20 at the end of the month, had to pull out of the first Great Britain training camp after testing positive for COVID.
He told the Speedway Star: “My fitness levels are good even though I had to miss the GB camp, which wasn’t ideal.
“I know how important fitness needs to be now and I’ve had a good winter training hard and eating the right food.
“Preparation are going well in the gym, but also in the workshop where I have four bikes built and they are ready to go.”
He’s keen to get back on a bike and get some track work under his belt, so he’s been following the various weather forecasts looking to get into action in the next fortnight.
“Hopefully I will be back on the bike mid-February time. I’ve got some stuff to test if the weather holds off so I’m watching the forecasts closely,” he said.
As well as riding in the Championship and Development League at Berwick, Bickley is also hoping he can win a place in a Premier League side.
“I want to focus this year on earning a Premier League place, and not just as a number eight. I know I need to score points for Berwick and I feel the team looks strong, so hopefully the points will start to flow for all of us,” he concluded.
